Calcium is vital for bones and teeth, and along with phosphorus, forms the framework of the skeleton. A deficiency in calcium may result in osteoporosis in later life. Other little-known benefits include soothing irritability and aiding sleep.
Where can I find it?
The most widely available sources are milk, cheese and yoghurt. Fish such as sardines, and green vegetables, are also good. If you cannot tolerate dairy foods, look for calcium-enriched foods such as cereals and soya milk.

The adult RDA is 700mg.
