With the only major climb of the day coming too far from the finish, none of the favourites will waste their energy attacking. So a group of riders who have all lost a lot of time on GC who offer no threat to the big guns will make an attack while everyone else can just sit up. This stage probably won?t effect any of the jersey competitions.

STAGE FACTS

? Foix has never hosted a Tour stage finish but it has hosted two starts. The first was a stage from Foix to Pla d?Adet in 2001, which was won by Lance Armstrong. The other was in 2007, which Alexandre Vinokourov won in Loudenville, except he was found to have blood doped.

? The Col de Portal is a new Tour climb.

? Lannemezan has also only hosted Tour stage starts.

? This stage comes after the first rest day. In the last twenty years, nine of the winners were already in yellow by the first rest day.
