After the rest day there are just two more mountain stages. This one will be decided on the final climb, Col de la Bonette-Restefond, as it is just a long descent to the finish. Therefore, the order of riders over the top is likely to be the same at the finish. This stage is a very good chance for any climbers way back on GC to get a good stage victory while all the main contenders watch and attack each other on the last hors category climb.

STAGE FACTS

? The Col de la Lombarde makes its first appearance in the Tour.

? The Col de la Bonette-Restefonde has appeared three times in the Tour route. Federico Bahamontes was first over twice in the 1960s and Robert Millar was first over in 1993.

? Neither Cuneo nor Jausiers have hosted the Tour before.

? Number of Hors-category climbs in 2008: 12 (four fewer than last year).

? There were also more second category climbs last year ? six compared to this year’s five.
