Yet another rolling stage which sees the riders leaving the Alps and heading back for the Massif Central. With two climbs in the final 35km to go it?s a good day for a long break to stay away; if a rider is on his own over the top of the final climb they have a good chance of staying away to the finish. Lance Armstrong was the last winner in St Etienne, where he won from a break away group of riders.

STAGE FACTS

? Saint Etienne has made 23 appearances in the Tour since it was first included in 1950.

? Each of the five men who have won the Tour five times has been presented with a yellow jersey at St Etienne.

? Out of 20 stages that have finished in St Etienne, the man wearing yellow has gone on to win overall on 14 occasions.

? The Croix de Montvieux is the last significant climb of the 2008 Tour.
