The Tour?s first summit finish, which comes shortly after the day’s other second category climb. The two big climbs at the end won?t be enough to split the favourites but a good time-triallist and good all-rounder may get their chance to wear yellow as an escape is likely to succeed.

STAGE FACTS

? This will be the third time Super-Besse has appeared in the Tour route. Rolf Sorensen won here in 1996, while Paul Wellens won in 1978.

? This is the earliest summit finish in the tour since 1981.
