Do we have enough space for equipment reviews? -stuff that Joe Public actually uses  .Have seen this on other sites and can be quite informative, someone could be looking for,say,new tyres . See what other people have said about the tyres they have etc. Could also be handy for people either new or getting back into cycling(like me a few years back  )the list of components could be a bit daunting for some   , just something to ponder about , From what I've read on some pages there is a lot of people out there asking to be informed  , we all are still learning ,not afraid to say I still am!!

I'd agree with both those proposals. Noobs like to have an opportunity to post where they won't be flamed or ridiculed or feel inadequate .Its the main reason why you have so many lurkers on technical sites like this.
If we only listed the various popular groupsets in order of cost and No of gears it would be very helpful .Its a bit of a minefield to spec a new bike for the uninitiated first time buyer/rider
An updated list of the most popular bikes available from say up to £200 £300 £400 and £500 would be useful too with links to reviews and bike shops selling them at the best price

Well I understand what you're wanting with a tech reference section but like you said there are review things on the web already and I would be concerned that if there was a section aimed at what is a good deal and where it could be open to spam posts appearing.
I hope everyone finds the "tech" section informative and friendly, I have never felt anyone has been ridiculed by asking any question, in fact I think it's a good thing that people are so keen to learn about their bike and very wise to ask opinions about what to buy! I never get tired of helping anyone who asks as long as I know how to help, whether it's a puncture repair to fitting a rear mech.
The market changes so fast and good deals change daily so to build up a reference would be a nightmare so if people just continue to ask in the "tech" section I'm sure all questions will be answered to the best of our ability! Sometimes if someone is looking for a chainset for example and a better one is known then the link to that dealer is always added to the post like I did recently with an FSA chainset, there is no point keeping a bargain to ourselves but there is also no point keeping a reference of these deals or links since once stock has sold out or changed the link becomes useless and how often do you click on a great deal you spot on Google only to find out it's sold out 6 months ago.

Tech section is excellent for newbies info, guys like Smokin Joe (and myself to a much lesser extent, that's me in full blowing own trumpet mode!) know what works, what doesn't, what fit's, what doesn't - Only problem is that he keeps recommending Campag!

bfergie posts on anything, in tech, he knows about, which seems a lot. I've stopped because I get it wrong quite often.
I applaud massi's attempts to have definitive lists etc. such as on the tyre/rim issue but it needs support, from the vast majority of forum users to work.
If you check what posts people are reading, often they are obscure tech posts from months ago, and they are being read because people are interested in that particular arcane subject.

I'm not sure a newcomers section is necessary. On other forums it seems to just add unnecessary posts and leads to people asking technical questions which should be in another section.
I like the clearly defined sections here. You know where things should be and there's a lounge section where newcomers could posts if they feel they need to.
I've asked lots of very basic and sometimes stupid questions and always got good advice from the clever chaps and chapesses on here. Unlike some other forums, you don't get unhelpful numpties replying with bad advice based on their warped opinions gleaned from the media or from latest trends.
Maybe a FAQ section for technical issues would be good, but keeping it pu to date and relevant would be important as already said.
It's good to have the opportunity to suggest improvements, but change shouldn't happen when it's not required and personally I think the forum is pretty close to perfect as it is (albeit a wanted section as suggested a while back would be an obvious inclusion).

My beloved wants a section where partners, wives girlfriends etc can post messages to their partners who spend too long on the forum or plittering with bikes in general. She obviously cant be meaning I never hear what she says otherwise I would never have put this post on the forum, well I think she said something like that, I had to edit a lot of the bad words she used!!

Don't know how old your kids are but get them a Wii !!! if your beloved is owt like Mrs Colnagodream she'll be on there for hours ,kids won't get a look in!!
