There are hundreds of cycling events throughout 2017 in virtually every corner of Britain, as the popularity of cycling shows no sign of diminishing.

To help you pick out some of the best events to ride, we present a selection of sportives and other rides over the coming weeks.

Wales in a Day

Scarborough Sportive

The longest route of this stiff challenge features over 11,500 feet of climbing along its 120-mile course – and even the shortest 56-mile route packs in 5321 feet of vertical ascent over the eastern region of the North York Moors.

Wiggle Chiltern Classic

Although the ride starts and finishes within the Chiltern Hills, the longer routes also take riders into the quiet lanes and rolling countryside to the east of Oxford.

Norfolk Sportive

A refreshing sportive that may lack in the elevation of some other events, but certainly makes up for that in other areas. The longest 150-mile course puts this among the longest in the UK – and those willing to do shorter distances are catered for with 25, 50 and 100-mile versions.

Wiggle Northern Angel

Wiggle Yorkshire Tour

British fans on stage one of the 2014 Tour de France

Many of the roads used in this sportive played host to the 2014 Tour de France Grand Depart. You can re-live that fantastic event with a choice of three routes, starting and finishing in Thirsk.

Ken Laidlaw sportive

Hawick Cycling Club organises this annual sportive, run on the roads used by pioneering British Tour de France rider Ken Laidlaw when he was out training in the Scottish Borders. One price for each of teh three routes means you can turn up on the day and choose which distance you fancy riding.

Warwickshire plays host to the Wiggle Tempest, offering three route distances passing over the River Avon and taking in roman roads, quiet villages and countryside climbs.

A ride that includes some of the best scenic views that the UK has to offer. Right from the start in Carlisle Racecourse, you head up Warnell Fell and look out over the Lake District before entering the national park, where the long route takes you past beautiful lakes, up Honister Pass and through Keswick.

Giant’s Causeway Coast Sportive

Billed as one of the biggest cycling events in Northern Ireland, the Giant’s Causeway Coast sportive takes place on the roads at the north-eastern tip of the country, north of Belfast. As the name suggests, all three of the routes tackle stunning sections of coast roads.
