A cyclist has died as a result of injuries sustained after colliding with a car in Scotland during the 2014 Ride Across Britain.

Mother of two, Sally Preece, aged 49 and from Cheltenham, was involved in a collision with a car on the A85 near near Loch Earn at 11am on Friday. She was taken to Forth Valley Royal hospital in a serious condition, but died on Saturday.

Preece was taking part in the ride as part of a team from Lloyds Bank, and was raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Concerns regarding road safety were raised prior to the event relating to another stretch of road in Scotland used by the ride, the A82. Stewart MacLean of the A82 Partnership said that there were “no overtaking opportunities between Onich and Fort William”.

I don’t know what happened in this case, but talking of ‘Overtaking opportunities’ – drivers talk as if it is their right to overtake – when it is not safe don’t overtake!
