Former mountain bike downhill world champion Melissa ‘Missy’ Giove was charged on Wednesday with conspiring to distribute marijuana in Albany, New York, America.
Police used an eloborate sting to snare Giove and accomplice Eric Canori, which resulted in them seizing $700,000 in cash and drug trafficking equipment, according to a report in the Contra Costa Times.
The investgation is continuing.
Giove won the downhill world championship in 1994, and was UCI downhill world cup champion in 1997 and 1998. As well as her bike handling skills, Giove was known for her flamboyant appearance and for wearing a dried piranha around her neck as a pendant.
