Britain?s Charly Wegelius retired from the Giro d?Italia on Thursday after 58km of the 203km 18th stage from Udine to Riese Pio X.
Wegelius started the stage with a high temperature and drifted off the back of the bunch after 32k. His Liquigas team persuaded him to carry on but the peloton covered the first hour of the stage at 48km/h and so Wegelius struggled to stay in the bunch. He eventually sat up and retired. He is the only rider of the Liquigas team to quit this year?s Giro d?Italia.
