British Boels-Dolmans rider Lizzie Deignan has the most Twitter followers of any female professional road cyclist

Former world champion Lizzie Deignan (Boels-Dolmans) tops the table for having the most followers among female pro road cyclists on social media platform Twitter.

Deignan, from Otley, West Yorkshire, is comfortably ahead of another former world champion, Marianne Vos (Rabo-Liv), with 116,000 followers to the Dutchwoman’s 96k at the time the stats were collated.

Deignan and Vos are light years ahead of other riders, with French rider Pauline Ferrand-Prevot (Rabo-Liv) a distant third with 25.6k.

British former junior world champion Lucy Garner (Wiggle-High5) also sits in the top 10, with 14.6k followers.

The list was collated by TB Pro Cycling in April. Riders were selected for the list based on top 10 placings in 2015 races, including the UCI World Cup.

Mark Cavendish (Dimension Data) tops the table for male pro cyclists, and currently has 1.29million Twitter followers.

Professional cyclists appear to have wholly embraced Twitter in the past few years, with the majority of top riders having signed up to the micro-blogging service.
