MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR ROY THAME
A MEMORIAL service and thanksgiving for the life of Hemel Hempstead CC?s Roy Thame, former chairman of the British Professional Cycle Racing Association, will be held on Thursday, March 22, at St Mary?s Church, Northchurch, near Berkhamstead, Hertfordshire. The service begins at 2.30pm and will be followed by a reception in the church hall.
Thame, who died on December 28, 2006, was manager of Holdsworth-Campagnolo, the leading home-based British pro team of the 70s era. His team featured top riders such as Les West, Colin Lewis, Keith Lambert and Geoff Wiles and they dominated the UK scene, then in its heyday, and enjoyed successful sorties to the Continent.
Thame?s shop W. F. Holdsworth Cycles in Lower Richmond Road, Putney, London, was a Mecca for cyclists. He was also an enthusiastic supporter of Hemel Hempstead CC, and life-member.
