BRITAIN’S POST-WAR OLYMPIC GOLDS

Nicole Cooke’s win in the road race gave Great Britain its first gold medal in a road event at a post-war Olympic Games. The only other road medals since the Second World War were Chris Boardman and Max Sciandri’s bronze medals in the time trial at road race at the 1996 Games in Atlanta. Cooke is only the fifth British cyclist to win gold in a post-war Games.
