After finishing 19th on stage two of the Ruta del Sol, Simon Geschke derides that a rival seemed to be pushed up the final climb to be in contention

Giant-Alpecin‘s Simon Geschke took to Twitter after stage two of the Ruta del Sol to deride sprinters being ‘pushed’ up climbs and then going on to win the race.

Without specifically mentioning him, Geschke’s tweet seemingly refers to Cofidis rider Nacer Bouhanni, who took victory on the stage to Cordoba, having initially been part of the group that detached on the climb that came 20km from the finish.

Geschke himself finished 19th on the stage, having been boxed in on the finishing straight, in which Bouhanni battled with Fabio Felline (Trek-Segafredo) and Ben Swift (Team Sky) for the win.

With the victory, Bouhanni moved into the overall race lead, with overnight leader Daniele Bennati (Tinkoff) not contesting the sprint.

A rolling stage on Friday should see the race lead change hands once more, with a time trial and a summit finish on stages four and five set to determine the winner of the race.

It is common practice to push your sprinter up a few hills.
