Britain’s Ian Stannard (ISD) is in second place overall in the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali stage race in Italy after his ISD team won the opening day’s team time trial.

Stannard’s team-mate Oscar Gatto crossed the line first, so he wears the leader’s jersey in the UCI 2.1 ranked event.

The TTT was the day’s second stage after an initial 81.2km road stage around Riccione with culminated in a sprint finish won by Danilo Napolitano (Katusha).

Two other British riders are taking part in the six-stage race: Charly Wegelius (Silence-Lotto) and Chris Froome (Barloworld).

The Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali finishes on Saturday, March 28.
