TEAM PURSUIT

Last year

Gold
Great Britain (Clancy, Thomas, Manning, Wiggins)

Silver Ukraine (Polatayko, Polischyuk, Popkov, Schedov)

Bronze Denmark (Jorgensen, Madsen, Morkov, Rasmussen)

The British challenge

Ed Clancy, Geraint Thomas, Paul Manning, Bradley Wiggins, Steve Cummings, Steven Burke

The Inside Line

With the individual pursuit final taking place on Wednesday evening and the team pursuit qualifying the following morning, Wiggins will be rested unless he is on absolutely flying form. So, Ed Clancy, Geraint Thomas and Paul Manning will fill three of the places in qualifying. The final spot will go to either Steve Cummings or Steven Burke, with testing continuing right up to the championships. At the time of going to press, there?s nothing between them. All being well, the quartet for the final will be Clancy, Thomas, Manning and Wiggins.

Verdict

Britain are the team to beat. The usual suspects ? Australia ? have been lacklustre this track season. Denmark have stepped up significantly too. But, barring disaster, gold should be in the bag

With two places in the individual pursuit there?s no surprise that Romero and Houvenaghel take them. Of the two, the former rower?s form has been better this season.

Verdict

Romero took silver in Majorca last year at her first World Championships. Her improvement has continued when she won the pursuit at the World Cup in Copenhagen last month.
