WORK ON THE CHRIS HOY VELODROME TO BEGIN SOON
Work on the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome in Glasgow is to begin shortly to be completed in time for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The arena, named after the eponymous Olympic champion, will host the track events for the Games and will have space for some 2,000 spectators.
Construction work is to begin soon to ensure that the velodrome, as well as the National Indoor Sports Arena, (which will host badminton events amongst other things on the 10.5 hectare site close to Celtic Park) will be completed in 2012 to allow athletes time to train at the venue before the Games begin in earnest two years later.
The velodrome is set to be designed by Ralph Schuermann, the man responsible for the design of the Olympic velodrome in Beijing.

BELLIS SHOWING SIGNS OF IMPROVEMENT
The latest news according to British Cycling regarding Jonny Bellis is that his rehabilitation programme is ongoing and there has been a good deal of improvement with his movement.
The young Briton was seriously injured in a scooter accident in Italy last September.
According to reports, Bellis is also gradually re-gaining the weight lost during his spell in intensive care.
HORIZON FITNESS ADDS TWO NEW RIDERS
The new British women’s team of experienced hand Stefan Wyman has added two new riders in the shape of Hannah Rich and Annabel Simpson.
Rich is the current Welsh road race champion and adds some firepower to the Horizon Fitness team.
“She’s a winner, that’s for sure,” commented team manager Wyman on the signing. “Hannah has proved she can win in the UK, now we need to help take her to the next level and get her winning in Europe. She’ll be able to compete in the Welsh Champions Jersey as well which will be nice.”
Simpson has recently switched from mountain bike to road and is one to watch out for in the future.
“I’m really looking forward to helping Annabel switch to a full road focus,” said Wyman. “It will be a lot different for her and I think she’ll really benefit from the increase in focus on one discipline. She’s got the talent and I think we’ll be able to help her move forward very fast.”
Simpson and Rich join Sarah Storey, Dani King, Gabby Day and Ella Sandler-Andrews.
WINDSOR CLOSE TO CROWN
Rapha-Condor-Sharp signing Dean Windsor showed his worth with second place in the Australian criterium championships in Ballerat, Victoria.
One of only eight finishers after the rest of the field were lapped, the Aussie was pipped to the line by Aaaron Kemps of Fly V Australia.
EARLY SPRING TRACK SESSIONS
With the prolonged winter weather wreaking havoc with many riders’ training programmes, Dave Le Grys and Lee Povey are offering a track endurance training session over the weekend of March 13-14 at Newport Velodrome.
The weekend is aimed at improving observation skills, bunch positioning, sprint finishing and tactical awareness in riders wishing to ride scratch, elimination and points races across a range of standards from track league riders to National Championship competitors.
The feedback and coaching is very similar to that used by the GB national squad in preparation for major competitions. In what is described as “a fun and welcoming coaching environment,” David and Lee will give detailed video feedback on the optimal tactics for a broad range of race situations.
Every standard will be catered for.
