RadioShack and GreenEdge still waiting for ProTeam licences
RadioShack-Nissan and GreenEdge are still awaiting the official green light to race the 2012 WorldTour.
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is waiting for additional documentation from the teams to make a final decision on whether they will be awarded a ProTeam licence to enable them to race in cycling's top tier in 2012.
The Luxembourg-based RadioShack-Nissan squad is an amalgamation of the RadioShack and Leopard-Trek teams, both of which raced with ProTeam licences in 2011. GreenEdge is a new Australian-based outfit.
Euskaltel-Euskadi, Ag2r La Mondiale, Katusha, FDJ, Lotto Belisol, Omega Pharma-Quick Step and Saxo Bank were all awarded a ProTeam licence on Monday.
In order to register as a ProTeam, squads must meet the UCI's strict criteria in the following categories: sporting, ethical, financial and administrative. All applications are audited by Ernst & Young.
Europcar has had its ProTeam application rejected, and the troubled Geox-TMC team has now withdrawn its application. Both squads are now being considered for second-tier, Professional Continental status by the UCI's licence commission.
It brings the total of registered squads to 16 from a maximum of 18.

Nigel Wynn worked as associate editor on CyclingWeekly.com, he worked almost single-handedly on the Cycling Weekly website in its early days. His passion for cycling, his writing and his creativity, as well as his hard work and dedication, were the original driving force behind the website’s success. Without him, CyclingWeekly.com would certainly not exist on the size and scale that it enjoys today. Nigel sadly passed away, following a brave battle with a cancer-related illness, in 2018. He was a highly valued colleague, and more importantly, an exceptional person to work with - his presence is sorely missed.
