Lars Boom career profile

Lars Boom is one of the most versatile and prodigiously talented prospects that the sport of cycling has seen for several years.

Joining the Rabobank Continental team in 2005, Boom forged the early part of his career combining the road with cyclo-cross, although his road racing was used mainly for training for the cyclo-cross season.

Despite racking up some fine cyclo-cross results - he became U23 world champion in 2007 - he also began to land some impressive results on the road, becoming the U23 world time trial champion in the same year.

Staying with the Rabobank Continental squad for the 2008 season, Boom took another host of results on the road, including the remarkable feat of winning the national senior time trial and road race championships. To cap what was an astonishing year, the Dutchman also added the world cyclo-cross title to his already bulging palmarès.

Converting to the road full-time in 2009 - and joining Rabobank's ProTour team - Boom impressed with an overall win at the Tour of Belgium and riding away to win alone on stage 15 at the Vuelta. The future's very bright for this young Dutchman.
