Wiggins to race Commonwealth Games Time Trial

Bradley Wiggins has revealed to the the Independent newspaper on Tuesday that he plans to take part in the Commonwealth Games in 2010.

In the interview, Wiggins said he would like to take part in the Games to try to complete "the set of gold medals I've already got." Cycling Weekly understands he will be taking part in the time trial, a race also a target for Scotland's David Millar - Wiggins' former team-mate at Garmin-Transitions.

Wiggins has already won numerous top honours in the World Track Championships and taken three golds, a silver and two bronzes in the Olympics, but although he has taken three silver medals in the Commonwealth Games, all of them on the track and the earliest back in 1998, he has never won gold. This autumn he will be aiming to put the record straight.

The Commonwealth Games takes place from October 4th-10th in Delhi, India.

In the same interview, Wiggins said that Peter Kennaugh could be the next possible British Tour de France winner after himself, that he will have a serious crack at both leading and winning a stage in the Tour of Italy this May.

Wiggins has also said that whilst going for overall victory in the Tour de France is the big aim, if he could sign on the dotted line now for third place in Paris this July, he would.

Wiggins came fourth in the 2009 Tour de France, equalling the existing record set by a British rider - Robert Millar's fourth in 1984.
