Making full use of local knowledge, Jake Martin (Kingsnorth International Wheelers) secured victory in the Peter Young Memorial in Surrey on Sunday.

Martin outsprinted Rapha Condor rival Elliott Porter and former race winner Alex Higham (Felt Colbornes-Hargroves) to take the win at the end of an 85-mile race based on roads around Cobham, just 30 minutes from his home.

The trio had broken clear early in the race and by the line were around four minutes clear of the chasing bunch, which was led in by Wouter Sybrandy (IG Sigma Sport).

Up in Worcestershire, MG Maxifuel Pro Cycling Team celebrated last week's official team launch with victory in the Evesham Vale Road Race at Inkberrow, courtesy of Will Bjergfelt.

Just like Martin in Surrey, 34-year-old Bjergfelt took the victory at the end of the 63-mile race in a three-up sprint, beating Matt Higgins (Felt Colbornes Hargroves) and Tom Murray (Metaltek-Knights of Old) into second and third respectively.

Team UK Youth have enjoyed a successful start to the season, and that continued in Wales on Sunday when they dominated the top five places in the Legstretchers Memorial to Betty Pharoah at Cowbridge.

Yanto Barker took the win ahead of team-mates Nik Gustavsson and Ian Wilkinson at the end of the 65-mile race.

In Lancashire, Team Corley Cycles rider Simon Wilson made it two wins from two races when he won the second round of the Wallis Cycles Spring Series at the Salt Ayre Sports Centre near Lancaster on Saturday.

Wilson was one of seven riders who broke away from the main bunch, and in a sprint finish he edged ahead of reigning national hill-climb champion Jack Pullar (Madison Genesis) while Richard Hepworth (Node 4-Giordana) completed the podium in third.

In Northumberland, Matt Kipling (Velo 29) took victory in the Wansbeck APR at Longhirst on Sunday.

Although early torrential rain had stopped, it still made for a wet course with potholes and warning flags dotted around the course.

Although the bunch had broken up mid-race it came back together for a bunch sprint finish, by which time just 35 of the 62 starters were left.

Node 4-Giordana rider Steve Lampier soloed to victory in the Eagle Road Club Spring Circuit Race at the Redbridge circuit in Essex on Saturday.

But behind him, there was plenty of excitement. Strada Sport rider Tom Fitzpatrick looked likely to take second spot, having got a gap of around half a minute.

But a puncture heading into the final lap, and had to settle for eighth place, while Felix Barker (St Ives CC) took second and Glendene CC's Josh Green third.

In Kent, Team Quest's Jason Ormston took a sprint victory in the second race of the South East League Summer Series at Kenardington.

The third cat rider edged ahead at the end of the 63 miles, leaving Paul Sewell (Bigfoot CC) to take second.
