The self-descriptive ‘Gran Fondo’ sportive frame from Kinesis is the latest from the British company’s stable.
Taking three years to develop, Kinesis has carefully choosen Easton GX2 Flared Taperwall tubing mated to carbon ?Strutt? seat stays. By using the material to its full potential, the flared downtube and top tube at the head tube helps to reduce lateral flex for direct steering. Tapering and butting the tubes has kept the weight off, a factor that Kinesis is keen to point out, ?Scandium has the ?spring? of steel but with the light weight of advanced alloy.?
Kinesis has only added the carbon stays to reduce vibrations and a carbon fork up front plays a role in keeping a direct feel to the Gran Fondo.
There are no slack angles, the Gran Fondo is designed with a race bike feel with a longer head tube and chainstays to improve long distance comfort. Increasing the bikes appeal will also be the addition of mudgaurd eyelets as well as rack mounts. The frame/fork are designed for short [39-49mm] brakes.
The Gran Fondo is available in sizes 51, 54, 57, 60, 63cm in either Deep Blue Metallic or Black Cherry Metallic. Prices are £699 for the Frame/Fork/Selcof Carbon post/Clamp/Headset or complete bike at £1,299 using Kinesis winter build kit.
