As the primary bike for the Orica-GreenEdge team, Scott’s Addict needs to be something of an all-rounder: light, fast and nimble, yet comfortable enough to help riders through the longest days.
So that’s just what the Swiss company has tried to do with the 2014 version of the Addict that was launched the week before the 100th edition of the Tour.
Taking the best points of the previous Addict and then lifting some of the aero tweaks from the Foil was how they went about it.
Simon Clarke is the proud owner of this Addict and has had it customised to his specification. It features a Shimano 9000 series 11-speed set-up including SRM-specific cranks and C35 wheels. So light is the bike that weight has to be added to bring it up to the 6.8kg minimum required by UCI regulations.
Scott’s engineers have allowed the seat tube more capacity to flex by taking the seatstays around the side of the seat tube and joining them on the top tube ahead of the seat clamp, but Clarke prefers a stiffer feel so uses the rigid Pro Vibe seatpost to fine-tune the ride feel.
A final noteworthy tweak comes courtesy of K-edge. Suppliers of the team’s chain catchers, they created a special version for the Tour that included an extra arm to mount the SRM magnet at the bottom.
