In any bike shop the selection of lubricants available is vast. With every brand claiming to be the perfect oil, we check out three new products that really do offer something a little different.

Topp-Kett contains a long-term corrosion inhibitor, and its non-hardening nature make it ideal for bikes stored outside or in damp sheds.

ChainJ offers nothing spectacular with the lube itself. It?s simply a good quality wet lube that requires careful use to prevent a dirt-covered chain: the applicator tube simplifies this. But ChainJ is also the first fully biodegradable lubricant in the marketplace.

Slick Caramel is a low-viscosity, fairly dry lubricant, claiming to build up a protective barrier on metallic parts, increasing with subsequent applications.

Verdict

For an aerosol, Topp-Kett is pretty thick. It lasts very well and picks up little in the way

of road grime. We?d just prefer a less wasteful application method. Nytralube?s Slick Caramel works best after subsequent applications, reducing chain noise noticeably. But Pedros?s eco-friendly oil is a great product, even before you take the green credentials into account. If used sparingly (easy with the applicator) it?s great, and your conscience can remain clean, and is our choice for that reason.
