Vitus has announced its range of three 2016 cyclocross bikes, two of which come with SRAM’s 1x groupset

With steady growth in its sales of cyclocross bikes over the last few years, Vitus has updated the framesets and specs of the 2016 range. Vitus stresses the bikes’ do-it-all nature, with its customers using them for adventure road riding and commuting as well as for racing.

Top of the tree is the Energie Pro which has a new carbon frame which is claimed to be 200 grams lighter than last year’s. It uses a SRAM Rival 1x drivetrain which pairs a single ring chainset with a wide range cassette and hydraulic disc brakes.

SRAM’s 1x set-up is designed to eliminate chain slap, reduce the chance of chin loss and improve mud clearance over a conventional two-ring set-up. Price is set at £1599.99.

The next-down Energie, retailing at £924.99, uses the same SRAM Rival 1x mechanicals. These are paired with an aluminium frame, with a full-carbon tapered fork with a 15mm thru axle. Front thru axles are the latest trend to sweep through the cyclocross bike market; increasing front end rigidity they improve tracking The top tube is a bit longer and the stem a bit shorter than on the 2015 model, to improve handling.

The entry-level Energie GR is priced at £774.99 and uses the latest iteration of Shimano’s Tiagra 10 speed groupset and TRP Spyre mechanical disc brakes. Both aluminium framed bikes also come with rack and mudguard mounts.
