The Mark 1 Xentis wheelset (£999) is an eye-catching, lightweight piece of time trialling speed weaponry.

The all-carbon construction with 42mm-deep rim and four teardrop profiled blades weighs in at a slight 1,446g and has a predictable carbon braking surface. Hubs are DT Swiss and run silkily smooth, and the rear is both Campag and Shimano 9/10 speed compatible.

A nice touch is the integrated front wheel magnet to enable the use of a computer, and some quality lightweight alloy QRs. Despite their light weight, these wheels have had some extensive use on all standards of tarmac road surface and still run perfectly true.

They are stiff and responsive and their low weight makes them an ideal choice for a sporting time trial.

If you are looking for a wheelset that is suitable for all disciplines of time trialling and weather conditions the Xentis Mark1 would be an ideal choice in my eyes ? they are superb.

Also available with a clincher alloy braking surface for an extra 300g at the same price, and in a high-modulus carbon version saving 248g for an extra £1,000. SC
