Nottingham welcomes elite men’s and women’s racing to its streets this Sunday (May 25) as the Milk Race descends on the city.

The race, staged for the first time in 20 years last year, is expected to draw in tens of thousands of spectators; 60,000 lined the Midlands paths last year.

Riders will race around a 1.2km closed-road circuit, beginning on Long Row, and pass Nottingham Castle en route.

Olympic winner Dani King rode to victory in the women’s elite race in 2013 and her defence has been boosted with her Wiggle Honda team-mate and fellow Olympian Laura Trott also racing.

The women’s race (start 1.15pm) bounds to be close-fought with Dame Sarah Storey leading her Pearl Izumi Sports Tours International team whose hopes also reside with Katie Archibald.

Ed Clancy will be hoping that he can be victorious for Rapha Condor JLT in the afternoon’s men’s race, which starts at 4pm. Felix English, also of Rapha Condor, won last year’s race.

Live music takes place on Saturday night and the cycling gets underway on Sunday morning when at 9.30am public rides take place.
