The Critérium du Dauphiné is eight days long and held in late May into early June, as an important marker in the run-up to the Tour de France, with many of its general classification winners going on to wear yellow in Paris.

Ineos Grenadiers (also under the moniker Team Sky), have won the race seven times out of the last 11 editions, with Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome, Geraint Thomas and Richie Porte all taking GC victory for the British team. Jakob Fuglsang (Astana) has won the event twice in the last five years, though, with Daniel Martínez (then EF Pro Cycling) triumphing in 2020.
