Team and truckers extend partnership at Metaltek

A number of new names have been added to the Metaltek roster in 2013 as the team, formerly known as Metaltek-Scott, has partnered up with new title sponsors, the haulage firm Knights of Old.

Former IG-Sigma riders Tom Murray and Tom Last join along with Kit Gilham and Adam Martin, who recently returned from representing Great Britain at the under-23 race at the World Cyclocross Championships.

Gruff Lewis made his competitive debut for the team in Sunday's Perfs Pedal, and was the best finisher after UK Youth's six riders locked-out the top positions. 

The extended partnership also strengthens the existing links between team and truckers that sees knowledge of road safety and health and nutrition shared between both parties and involves workshops with local schools.

Alan Rosner Memorial Races

Maldon Dengie Tour organiser Alan Rosner will be remembered during a special day of racing at Hog Hill on Easter Monday.

Rosner passed away last June, just over four months after his iconic race was held as a Premier Calendar round for the first time in its short history.

A number of events will take place to commemorate Rosner, with money raised going to a campaign to buy a memorial bench at the Redbridge facility.

Ride24 registration opens

Registration for one of the hardest cycling challenges in Britain, the Ride24 endurance race at Thruxton motor circuit in Hampshire, is now open.

As the name suggests, the event over September 7 and 8 is a challenge to ride as far as you can on the 2.4mile circuit within 24 hours. You can enter solo or as part of a four-man team; the record is held by a team from the University of Birmingham and stands at 549.6 miles (that's 22.9mph).

CTC campaign to police commissioners

The Cyclists' Touring Club (CTC) are calling on cyclists to get in touch with their recently elected Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) to campaign for road safety to be appointed a key priority in policing plans.

Consulation over policing is currently taking place and will inform the plans that the elected officials will put into effect. Only one of the 42 PCCs elected in November last year prioritised road safety in their manifesto, according to the CTC.

Don't worry if you have no idea who your local PCC is (just 15% of the population turned out to vote); the CTC has drafted a letter that you can send to your local representative just by filling in your details on the CTC website (external link).
