Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) launched a late attack in the final two kilometres of the second stage of the 2014 Tour de France to win the stage in Sheffield and put himself into the race lead.

Greg Van Avermaet (BMC Racing) came home for second place, with Michal Kwiatkowski (Omega Pharma-QuickStep) in third.
