Mark Cavendish in 'discussion' with Gorka Izagirre after Tour of Britain crash (video)

British sprinter Mark Cavendish appears to exchange words with Spaniard Gorka Izagirre after the pair were brought down during stage five of the Tour of Britain

Mark Cavendish (Etixx-QuickStep) and Gorka Izagirre (Movistar) appear to have been involved in a robust exchange of opinion at the roadside during Thursday's stage five of the Tour of Britain.

Manxman Cavendish and Spaniard Izagirre were both involved in a crash as the race wound its way through the testing and narrow roads into the Lake District from Prudhoe to Hartside Fell.

Cavendish can be seen talking animatedly to Izagirre at the roadside after both riders had picked themselves up from the incident. Izagirre then walks off, and both riders pick up their bikes and continue.

It is unclear how the incident happened.

Team Sky's Wouter Poels went on to win the stage, which featured an ascent up Hartside Pass. Poels passed Edvald Boasson Hagen (MTN-Qhubeka) in the final few hundred metres of the stage to take the win, with Boasson Hagen putting himself into the race lead.

The 2015 Tour of Britain continues today with a stage from Stoke-on-Trent to Nottingham. The race concludes in London on Sunday, September 13.

Former Associate Editor

Nigel Wynn worked as associate editor on CyclingWeekly.com, he worked almost single-handedly on the Cycling Weekly website in its early days. His passion for cycling, his writing and his creativity, as well as his hard work and dedication, were the original driving force behind the website’s success. Without him, CyclingWeekly.com would certainly not exist on the size and scale that it enjoys today. Nigel sadly passed away, following a brave battle with a cancer-related illness, in 2018. He was a highly valued colleague, and more importantly, an exceptional person to work with - his presence is sorely missed.
