On- and off-road event takes in 100 kilometres of byways, bridleways and lanes of Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire

The Tour of the Cornfields cyclo-cross sportive returns for 2015 on Sunday, September 6, taking in on- and off-road tracks in Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.

The 100-kilometre (62 mile) route starts and finishes at Wimpole Hall, Royston, Hertfordshire, and takes in a 50-50 mix of off- and on-road sections, including byways, bridleways and quiet tarmac lanes.

Entry to the event costs £23 and is limited to just 300 places, with all profits going to assisting youth riders taking part in the Eastern Cyclo-Cross League.

Russ Jones of event sponsor and organiser Hackney GT said: “I’ve wanted to organise a cyclo-cross sportive for years so when the opportunity to bring the Tour of the Cornfields back came up I jumped at it.

“I was gutted I’d never managed to ride it previously as I’d heard so many good things about it from those taking part. We have already successfully resurrected the Beastway mountain bike race series so will be using our organisational experience to allow more people to enjoy this classic cyclo-cross inspired event”.

Participants are encouraged to tackle the ride on bike suited for the purpose: cyclo-cross, mountain or gravel bikes. The route features one feed station at the mid-way point, which also includes mechanical assistance should it be needed.
