UK Cycling Events' 2016 calendar will contain 20 new events, including the all-new UKCE Black Series of challenging sportives for experienced bike riders
UK Cycling Events have added 20 new road and MTB routes to next year’s calendar, with new events in the existing Wiggle Super Series and Ordnance Survey Spin Series and the all-new UKCE Black Series joining the ten events of the Cycling Weekly Sportive Series in a well-stocked 2016 sportive season.
The first events to be released on sale will be the Wiggle Super Series, with 48 events across both road and MTB, including the South Downs 100, which contains a timed closed-road hill climb, and the new early-season Vale Velo around the Yorkshire Wolds in April, which features just under 4,000ft of climbing.
The Box Hill Original will return in the Cycling Weekly Sportive Series, offering riders the chance to follow in the pedal strokes of the pros over parts of the 2012 Olympic road race route and, of course, the infamous zig-zags of Box Hill. The series will also contain a special new event for 2016, to celebrate Cycling Weekly’s 125th anniversary.
The new UKCE Black Series has been designed to be amongst the toughest sportives on the UK circuit, to challenge experienced riders, and places will be available from November. Places will be limited, though, and will also be subject to entry criteria.
More than 70,000 cyclists took part in UKCE sportives in 2015 alone and more than 80,000 people are expected to ride on the 70-plus events that will take place next year.
