One of the UK scene’s favourite brands, Kinesis has evolved its cross bikes over the years and augmented the features that make it so enduringly popular with British riders.

Sold as a frameset only, the CXRace Evo has a threaded bottom bracket shell that ought to supply creak-free riding in muddy conditions along with easy maintenance and replacement.

That, and the lack of carbon, might seem old school, but the CXRace Evo’s scandium alloy frame is thoroughly in the modern cyclocross age, sporting a 142x12mm thru-axle and flat-mount disc brake fixtures.

The frame allows full internal cable routing and is compatible with electronic shifting, although there’s the flexibility to follow the classic top tube/seatstay cable route if you prefer. It uses a band-on front mech, so can be run neatly in either a single-ring or double-ring configuration.

There’s a tapered head tube to fit Kinesis’s carbon fork, which again features a thru-axle and flat-mount brakes with internal hose routing and plenty of tyre clearance.

Kinesis provides a range of adapters as well as headset bearings and thru-axles as part of the frameset package.

He’s been cycling for a lot longer than that though and his travels by bike have taken him all around Europe and to California. He’s been riding gravel since before gravel bikes existed too, riding a cyclocross bike through the Chilterns and along the South Downs.
