In the second episode of our series with the mechanics of the pros, Cycling Weekly catches up with Rob van den Brand, who looks after the bikes of superstar riders such as Marcel Kittel and John Degenkolb on WorldTour team Giant-Alpecin.

Van den Brand, who is currently out with the German team at the Giro d’Italia, offers an insight to some of the riders’ quirky requests when it comes to their machines, including Degenkolb’s superstitious sticker he had on his frame as he rode to victory at the 2015 Paris-Roubaix.

The Dutchman also discusses his favourite tools, tips and tricks for maintenance, and if that wasn’t enough bikes, he reveals his own passion for riding when he does get some time off from the team.
