For the latest episode in our ‘secrets of the toolbox’ series, Cycling Weekly dropped in on Steve Shellard to hear about the workings behind British domestic team Pedal Heaven.

Pedal Heaven came third in this year’s Tour Series, ahead of more established professional teams throughout the ten rounds including JLT Condor and Team Raleigh-GAC.

Key to any team’s success is the help and dedication of the support staff. From the directeur sportif and coaches, to the soigneurs and mechanics, all are needed to keep the team riding and racing.

Shellard shows himself to be a bit of a joker, hiding comedy playing cards around the riders’ bikes and kit bags to see how long it take them to notice.

He also can’t get his head around some of the riders wanting continental style brakes set up, with the right lever controlling the rear brake.
