Battle Mountain, a film charting Graeme Obree’s attempt to set a Human Powered Landspeed Record, will tour UK cinemas in March, April and May.

Obree designed and built a Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) to take on the attempt at Battle Mountain, Nevada, USA, in 2013. Cameras followed his progress, documenting the mental and physical highs and lows of taking on such an intense challenge.

Olympic track champion Sir Chris Hoy and members of Obree’s family are also featured in the film.

Hour Record legend Obree will be present in person at many of the events, taking part in a question and answer session with the audience.

A preview screening takes place at PictureHouse Central in London on March 21, where Obree will be joined by the film’s director David Street for a Q&A hosted by broadcaster Jeremy Vine.

The film was partly funded after a public appeal on crowd-funding website Kickstarter, and was premiered at the 2015 Edinburgh Film Festival.

Obree’s life story and his Hour Record endeavours were dramatised in the critically well received 2006 film The Flying Scotsman, starring Jonny Lee Miller as Obree.

Everyone needs their own identity and Graeme has his.

Hmm – next time he needs to consult an aerodynamicist and not copy something from 1979.
