Ian Boswell was Team Sky’s highest-placed finisher on the Giro d’Italia‘s stage 15 mountain time trial on Sunday, coming 15th behind stage winner Alexander Foliforov (Gazprom).

With Sky’s general classification leader Mikel Landa out of the race due to illness, and the team’s sprinter, Elia Viviani, missing the time cut on stage eight, the remaining riders have been given a free rein.

Spaniard Mikel Nieve wasted no time in taking advantage of the opportunity to grab a stage victory for Sky, winning stage 13 from a solo move.

Boswell told Cycling Weekly that he is also going to try and make an impression in the 2016 Giro’s final week, when the race hits the high Alps.

The 25-year-old American told us – half jokingly, perhaps – that he may take aim at the ‘Cima Coppi’, the highest climb of the 2016 race on stage 19 from Pinerolo to Risoul as the Giro pays a visit to France.

He also explains what a ‘hakkalugi’ is, but his explanation is not for the squeamish.
