Professional cycling is a serious business, but that’s not to say the riders take it seriously all of the time.

We seen in our Tweets of the Week franchise that when off the bike the riders don’t take themselves seriously, so Cycling Weekly set out to find out who is the funniest rider in the peloton.

There were mixed results from the riders we asked, with votes for Gregory Rast (Trek-Segafredo), Marcel Sieberg (Lotto-Soudal) and Annette Edmondson (Wiggle-High5).

Mark Cavendish got the shout from Katusha sprinter Alexander Kristoff for his wit on Twitter, while Kristoff himself was nominated by teammate Sven Erik Bystrom.

Michele Scarponi (Astana) was the pick of Jacopo Guarnieri, although some of his jokes may get lost in translation with the English speakers, given that Scarponi only speaks in Italian or Spanish in the peloton.

Scarponi has received a cult following in recent months for going on training rides with a parrot, named Frankie, on his shoulder. What a joker.
