Where can I find the best Black Friday bike deals?

All of the big cycling retailers have followed the pattern of great deals of tech products by more general retailers, offering huge discounts on bikes for Black Friday. Coming at the end of year, this is useful for retailers to boost their 2016 sales, and also help to shift 2016 stock in order to make space in their warehouses for 2017 bikes, perhaps equipped with the new Shimano Dura-Ace groupset.

Black Friday 2016 at Chain Reaction Cycles

The pick of the Chain Reaction Black Friday deals are likely to be on Vitus bikes, which (as with Castaway with Wiggle) are owned and produced by Chain Reaction. The Northern Irish company also stocks bikes from Cube, Fuji, Ghost, and Raleigh, so expect to see discounts on those too. There’s even free shipping on everything over $99.

Black Friday 2016 at Competitive Cyclist

Competitive Cyclist has one of the biggest ranges of road cycling kit of any American retailer, with bargains across the board on bikes from Ridley, Pinarello, and Santa Cruz, as well as a few smaller things too. Even better, Competitive Cyclist also runs a Twelve Days of Christmas offer, with big discounts only a few days after Black Friday has passed.

Black Friday 2016 at Backcountry

The cousin of Competitive Cyclist, Backcountry has a huge range of different mountain bikes (and a few road bikes), shoes, and accessories to choose from, and although its Black Friday deals haven’t fired up just yet, we’d expect the biggest bargains to be on the huge choice of GoPros that the shop has in stock.

Black Friday 2016 at Sierra Trading Post

Sierra Trading Post already has a Black Friday page ready to go, but unfortunately it only says “check back later”. “How much later?!” I hear you cry, well unfortunately we’re in the dark as much as you, but we’ll be checking it regularly to make sure you don’t miss out on the best bargains at the start of the sale.

Black Friday 2016 at Performance Bike

In previous years, Performance Bike has not only offered the same sorts of bargains that most other retailers offer on individual products, but has also been generous enough to give discounts of 20 per cent off across the board (oh, apart from bikes, sorry). Bargain hunters will be hoping to see the same next year.

Black Friday 2016 at Nashbar

Nashbar has the same parent company as Performance Bike, so expect similar savings across the board. Nashbar already has a big clearance area on its website, so expect to see deals that are there already to get even bigger as Black Friday approaches, with now being a very good time to pick up bargains if really tall or small.

When will these Black Friday bike deals be available?

Different retailers take different approaches to what is the busiest shopping day of the year, so Black Friday bike deals won’t necessarily become available at 00:01 on 25 November.

>>> Black Friday Deals: All the top early offers right now

Wiggle already has a page on its website that includes a countdown to Black Friday, with the retailer kicking off its deals at midnight on Black Friday in previous years, then continuing them through the weekend, before bringing out some fresh bargains for Cyber Monday three days later. Expect to see the same pattern continue this year.

In contrast Chain Reaction unleashed some of its Black Friday bike deals four weeks before the day itself. The deals were then updated each week leading up to the release of some of the biggest discounts on Black Friday itself. So maybe we should stay tuned from the last week of October for some of Chain Reaction Cycles’ best Black Friday bike deals.

What is Black Friday?

Black Friday is the first Friday after Thanksgiving (which in 2016 is 25 November), and is traditionally seen as the start of the Christmas shopping season, with retailers opening their doors at the crack of dawn and offering big discounts for shoppers who have set their alarm clocks.

The rise of internet shopping has allowed the Black Friday tradition to spread throughout the world, with the UK’s bike retailers like Wiggle, Chain Reaction Cycles, Evans Cycles, and Ribble Cycles all getting caught up in the scramble to get shoppers to part with their cash.
