Here’s something you don’t get every day. An invite to go riding with the editor! Cycling Weekly is launching its own sportive on October 9 with a choice of three routes around Surrey’s picturesque lanes.
There are no prizes for guessing that I’ll be tackling the 33-mile fun ride, but there are also 73- and 100-mile courses for more serious riders. Whichever distance you choose you’ll enjoy a sociable end-of-season ride around Surrey’s quiet, undulating lanes.

There’ll be a full office turn-out across all distances and we’ll be inviting a few star guests to complement our numbers. We’re expecting a full turn-out so advance entry at www.cyclingweekly.com/sportive is strongly advised as you will also get a free HIGH5 race pack worth more than £12 if you register before September 18.
Each of the three routes starts with an ascent of Box Hill, with the two longer distances also including Pitch Hill, Leith Hill and White Down as you head east to Godalming and Haslemere before turning back to the start in Dorking via Rudgewick, Forest Green and Abinger Hammer.
To help you make it to the end there will be free energy drink and food, mechanical support, electronic timing, full signposting and even bike-wash facilities.
All that you would expect from a top sportive and more. See you there.
