My apologies if you’ve heard this one before, but the bike race season is definitely out of sync with the weather.
This week we’re looking at temperatures of 17 degrees in the south. Dry with light winds, I’m hoping for perfect autumnal conditions for a midweek ride. It may be just over seven weeks to Christmas but winter still seems some way off.

Compare this decent spell to the cold snap we endured at the beginning of the year. There was snow and ice simply everywhere just in time for the start of the racing and sportive seasons.
It’s bonkers, the cycling year needs moving on a month or so. We’ve made absolutely no allowance for climate change and we’re missing out on some consistently pleasant conditions at the end of the year.
Last weekend’s National Hill-Climb signified the end of the road season. Wouldn’t it be more sensible to run the season from Easter until the end of November?
