Aldi’s cycling range in shops Thursday 24th September

Aldi offers a wide range of sharply-priced cycling clothing and other gear in its supermarkets from this Thursday

As well as its standard cycling range, this year Aldi will offer a premium range of cycle clothing with a closer fit and made from more technical fabrics. There’s more detail on Aldi’s Specialbuys page.

Pro-Cycling range

The premium Pro-Cycling range is available for men and ladies. It includes a winter jacket in black priced at £29.99 and a performance jersey in red and black at £29.99. Both feature plenty of reflectives and four rear pockets including a zippered one for valuables.

There’s also a performance bibtight for £29.99. This has a substantial seat pad with gel inserts, windproof panels on the front of the legs and is made of fleecy roubaix-style fabric. It’s got leg zippers and is cut high at the front with a zipper for easier access. There are reflective on the backs and sides of the legs too.

Aldi is also offering a cycling jacket in the standard cycling range priced at £16.99 and a rain jacket for £19.99. Merino baselayers cost £15.99 each for long tops and bottoms and gloves are from £4.99 to £7.99.

We’ve tried out Aldi’s performance jersey – its fleecy lining makes it comfortably warm and it’s pretty wind resistant so you won’t suffer from windchill either. It’s quite generous so there’s room to layer up underneath. We also tried the men’s cycling waist tights (£13.99) in size small, which are a good fit with a comfortable pad and lots of reflectives. The wool blend cycling socks at £3.99 are comfortable – and for £12.99 Aldi are offering waterproof ones.

Cycling hardware and energy products too

In addition to its clothing range, Aldi will be selling a range of branded cycling equipment. Stand-outs include a Garmin Edge 500 cycling GPS priced at £79.99, bar-style blinker bike lights at £8.99 and a bike lock at £4.99.

For those stay indoors days, Aldi’s turbo trainer is priced at £49.99. We tried this out: it’s stable and easy to set up and store, although the resistance unit doesn’t quite get hard enough for a serious work-out.

There’s a range of Muc-Off bicycle cleaning and maintenance products available for £3.99 each and if you’re puncture-averse Slime tyre sealant is priced at £4.99. Finally, to fuel your rides there’s a range of different flavours of energy gel for 99p a sachet and electrolyte tablets at £2.99 for a tube of 20.

Aldi says that the range will be available in all its stores but its cycling range has a habit of selling out fast, so it’s probably worth getting in quickly.
