The Tour of Flanders on Sunday is an epic race of gruelling cobbled climbs that sees a war of attrition take place between the hard men of professional cycling. To mark the occasion, we’ve put together a quick quiz to test your knowledge of the Ronde.
As was the case with many cycle races, the Tour of Flanders was started as a marketing ploy for a local newspaper, and soon grew into the behemoth that it is today. The early editions were politically charged statements of Flandrian identity at a time when the Belgian cycling authorities were on the whole French-speaking and Brussels-based.
This year offers the greatest chance of a British victory for years with both in-form Geraint Thomas and the Paris-Roubaix-targeting, De Panne-stage-winning Bradley Wiggins taking the start for Team Sky.
In advance of the 2015 edition on Easter Sunday (April 5), test your knowledge of the race’s history with this week’s cycling quiz.
