Cyclist killed by ‘racing motorist’ in east London

Police say they have located the car they suspect to have been involved but are calling for witnesses to come forward

A cyclist has died following a hit and run collision with a car in East London on Monday night (November 24), with police suspecting the driver had been racing another car along a main road.

The 32-year-old cyclist was taken to an east London hospital after the incident, which occurred around 10pm near the junction of Commercial Road and Cavell Street on the A13, but died later of his injuries.

Scotland Yard said: “The vehicle that collided with the victim is believed to have been racing with another car when it collided with the victim. The car did not stop at the scene.”

They later added: “A car that was suspected of being involved in the collision has been located but officers would still like to hear from any witnesses to the incident.”

Police say the cyclist’s next of kin have been informed.
