When the lights flash and the barriers come down, it’s best not to continue on your way across the level crossing, but a cyclist seemingly didn’t take such notice.
The above video has been released by the British Transport Police as part of their ‘Look! Don’t Risk it!’ campaign to raise awareness of the dangers posed by railway crossings, with a pedestrian, cyclist and motorist all nearly being caught out.

The cyclist can be seen speeding towards the crossing and was caught unawares when the barrier started to go down. Slamming on the brakes the rider hit the barrier, sending his bike onto the track and himself sprawled onto the road.
He then got to his feet and strolled onto the track, without even checking for trains, to retrieve his wheels.
Inspector Becky Warren, of the British Transport Police said: “All too often people get into the habit of taking risks at crossings. Our message is simple – use crossings safely.
“It may be tempting to jump a light to shave a minute or two off your journey, but every time you do, you endanger your life and the lives of other road and rail users.
“Fail to obey the signals and you may also end up with a driving ban or a criminal record. Is it really worth the risk?”
