Bradley Wiggins added a road world title to his list of wins as he beat defending champion Tony Martin by 26 seconds in the time trial. Wiggins paced his world championship ride to perfection after the British team did their homework on the route in Ponferrada, northern Spain.
With a testing climb towards the end of the course Wiggins knew he could win if he could get to the top with a buffer over three time winner Martin. With his weight down to 72kg, Wiggins was holding 470 watts and with it the confidence that that would put him in with a good chance of the win.
