Michal Kwiatkowski, Marcel Kittel and Andre Greipel were just three of the road racers who took to the sand and dirt for the Tom Boonen and Friends charity race
Winter is a time for cyclocross, and a few familiar faces took to some pretty unfamiliar terrain to take part in the Tom Boonen and Friends charity race this weekend.
A number of Boonen’s Etixx-Quick Step colleagues, like Niki Terpstra, Zdenek Stybar and Michal Kwiatkowski took to the sand and dirt of the two kilometre track, with future teammate Marcel Kittel also joining in the fun.
While some riders, Stybar in particular, were at home in the off-road conditions, others like Kittel and fellow German sprinter Andre Greipel seemed less confident.
Unable to compete himself due to injury, Boonen was on hand to deliver some tactics to riders, including Kwiatkowski below.
While the professional shots show all the riders managing to stay upright in the light-hearted race, Terpstra tweeted a photo of one of his bloopers, ending up sprawled on his hands and knees in the sand.
