National under-23 cyclo-cross champion Steve James (Hargroves Cycles) continued his sparkling recent form when he took victory in the latest round of the Wessex League, the Thruxton Thanksgiving Cross, in Hampshire on Sunday.
The 20-year-old from Crowthorne held off Adrian Lansley (Pedal On) to take the victory, which comes seven days after he finished top under-23 (and sixth overall) in the third round of the National Trophy in Southampton.
The Thruxton course was one of many across the country that suffered because of the recent heavy rain and flooding, weather which forced the cancellation of regional events in the South West League in Devon and the West Midlands League in Solihull.
The North West League did go ahead, but took place at a muddy Stadt Moers Country Park in Whiston, near Liverpool, on Sunday.
Wirral-based rider Giles Drake (Team Elite) notched up his third win in a row in the league - and his fifth victory this season - when he crossed the line ahead of Zepnat RT veteran Pete Middleton, while Simon Wilson (Metaltek-Scott) was third.
Talented junior rider Billy Harding (Paul Milnes-Bradford Olympic RT) took victory in the eighth round of the Yorkshire Points Series at Myrtle Park in Bingley on Sunday.
He was a clear two minutes ahead of his nearest rival after a sparkling performance on a day when the mud meant plenty of pit stops.
And there was also a talented junior enjoying a victory in the Welsh League event at Govilon near Abergavenny, where Cardiff JIF rider Adam King took the win from rival Jonathan Pugh (CycleTec).
In the Elmy Cycles Eastern League, Round five winner Dennis Lisbygd (Icknield RC) secured his second victory in the series in round 11, staged at Redgrave Activity Centre near Diss in Norfolk.
The Danish rider, who lives in St Albans, took the win by 28 seconds from VC Moulin's Steven Halsall who was also second in the previous round.
Almost 12 months since he last won at the venue, Andy Naylor (Fossa Racing) won the latest round of the SRAM Notts and Derby League at Sinfin Park in Derby on Saturday.
His first victory of the season, Naylor won by 46 seconds and secured his fourth podium finish of the season in the league.
In Lincolnshire, Steve Lampier (IG-Sigma Sport) was victorious at Abbey Farm near Bardney, while league regulars and team-mates Rick Lister and Mark Cotton (both Ellmore Factory Racing) came home second and third respectively
