On Wednesday we featured the video from Jeremy Roy’s on-bike camera, catching the moment when a huge crash took out a large number of riders on stage 1a of the Ruta del Sol.
Now we can see the same crash from above, as helicopter footage shows the riders falling like dominos as the tumble spread across the road.

The crash shows Team Sky’s Kanstantsin Siutsou deviate from his racing line at the front of the peloton and into the front wheel of AG2R La Mondiale’s Blel Kadri, as seen in this GIF.
Poor Kadri never saw it coming, and neither did Siuitsou, given that he was looking over his opposite shoulder as he weaved left, leaving Kadri sprawling on the tarmac with injuries which forced him out of the race.
The Frenchman’s tumble brought down dozens of other riders, with those lucky enough to remain upright having to apply the brakes and skirt around the edge.
Kadri reportedly suffered four broken ribs and a haemothorax between the lungs, requiring him to spend several days in hospital and several weeks recuperating afterwards.
